In-House Testing

  • HgbA1c — This is your 3 month test reflecting average diabetic control.  It does NOT measure blood sugar directly, but rather, a chemical product produced by high blood sugar.  Target range for diabetic patients is an HgbA1c of below 7.0% (by ADA criteria), and even below 6.5% (AACE criteria)
  • Glucose
  • Urinanalysis
  • EKG
  • Pulmonary Function
  • Nerve Conduction  —  This involves the attachment of electrodes to the extremities and measurement of the speed and “shape” of an electric impulse sent down the nerves.  This helps us to identify “sick” nerves from diabetes (diabetic neuropathy), or slowing of nerve conduction because of spinal stenosis (radiculopathy), or from other conditions that press on the nerves.
  • Balance and Vestibular Testing — This involves the testing of the inner ear mechanisms that are so important for balance.  By measuring the pairing of eye movements to electrical responses, we can identify if there is a problem we can remedy with physical therapy (canalith repositioning), and thereby reduce your risk of falling at home.
  • Nerve Conduction
